Duration of Unit:  Approximately 2 weeks

 

Missouri Learning Standards/Essential Learning Outcomes:

Students will be able to ask and answer questions about familiar topics (MLS 1.1a)

Students will be able to exchange descriptions of people and places (MLS 1.1d) 

Students will be able to comprehend the principal message contained in Spanish media, such as illustrated texts, posters, and advertisements.  (MLS1.2b)

Students will be able to identify people based on oral and written descriptions (MLS 1.2a)

Students will be able to tell or retell stories on familiar topics both orally and/or in writing using prompts (MLS 1.3a)

Students will be able to use appropriate patterns of behavior for Spanish-speaking people in familiar situations (MLS 2.1b)

Students will be able to understand and describe the practices of common cultural activities and holiday celebrations (MLS 2.1b,c)

Students will be able to read, listen to and talk about age-appropriate school content, folk tales, short stories, poems, songs written for native speakers of Spanish  (MLS 3.2a)

How do I describe and talk about members of my family?

How do I talk about and describe Christmas and New Year holiday traditions my family has?

How do Christmas holiday traditions in the United States compare to holiday traditions in Hispanic countries?

 

Big Idea of the Unit:

You will continue to increase your proficiency in Spanish by being able to read, talk, write and understand spoken Spanish when talking about housing and where people live.  

You will develop an awareness of different celebrations for the Christmas holidays in Hispanic countries.

 

Specific Assessment Evidence:

Students will indicate their level of proficiency via formative and summative assessment activities involving listening, reading, writing and oral activities.
